Environmental protection is mission and vision of “Electric Power Industry of Serbia”. After many years in which the available money was invested only in the maintenance of production capacities, environmental protection became priority in the business policy of PE EPS.
In scope and complexity of projects, resources invested and achieved effects, EPS has become a leader in environmental protection in Serbia and the region. After the year 2000, PE EPS started the modernization of production capacities, which included the improvement of environmental protection. Solving those problems is of equal priority as the production of electricity.
Importance of environmental protection is indicated by the fact that almost a third of commitments, which the Serbian government policy in the accession to the European Union should meet, are about regulations and standards in the environmental protection. With set of laws and documents, EPS is asked to harmonize the operation of its facilities with those regulations by 2015. By using existing and new measures for protection of the environment on EPS capacities, it will respond to the demands of domestic and EU legislation, as well as commitments taken from the Treaty establishing the Energy Community of Southeast Europe.
