PE EPS SB Initiative

Supervisory Board of the Public Enterprise Electric Power Industry of Serbia has addressed the Ministry of Mining and Energy with an initiative to introduce strategic reserve mechanism as an interim solution to provide safety of supply to Serbian customers.

  • Strategic reserve means conserving all power plants to be put out of regular operation and in case of power crisis to be deconserved and recommissioned – said Milorad Grcic, EPS Acting Director. The aim of this initiative is to provide stable supply with unchanged prices for Serbian citizens. The capacities to be conserved after analysis of expert services may be activated in conditions of crisis such as we are facing today, in the events of disruptions in the market, i.e. when the operation of thermal power capacities from strategic reserve is justified by price and quantity of electric energy.

Dragan Vlaisavljevic, Executive Director for Electricity Trading, explained that this transitional solution had been done following the European Union model.

  • Some countries, such as Germany, have introduced strategic reserve and they activate it in such situation, while Romania is totally dependant on wind power. The existing law has been prepared in a trading manner, and if the ministry accepts such initiative, we would have the possibility to save the existing capacities and to build the new ones – said Vlaisavljevic

Prof.PhD. Petar Stanojevic, PE EPS SB member before the Government of the Republic of Serbia, welcomed such an initiative.

  • I am for strategic reserves as well as for conservation of capacities, since this is a first real big power crisis, but I believe not the last one – explained Stanojevic.

All members of PE EPS SB have accepted the suggestion for initiative of PE EPS Acting Director.
