Elektroprivreda Srbije, as a key driver of energy and economic development, is continuously working on ensuring energy stability through new renewable energy projects, diversification of sources and energy efficiency in order to achieve the goal od 45 percent RES production by 2030 – said Aleksandar Latinović, Head of System Services at EPS.
At Korean – Serbian Forum for Strategic Energy Development which has been held today in Belgrade organized by the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, speaking about new production capacities, Latinović has highlighted that EPS is developing strategic projects and identifying new potentials.
- Petka, 10 MW solar power plant, has been in trial run for a month already, while the construction of the first EPS’ windfarm is entering the very end, since the connection switchgear testing has begun. This year, solely Kostolac will contribute new 76 MW in total of green energy. EPS’ strategic project remains Bistrica pumped-storage hydro power plant which will be the major factor in system security, as a power plant which will increase the balance reserve in the system, and at the same time the capacity of this future energy storage facility is approximately equal to the sum of all battery electricity storage systems that are currently in operation in Europe. At the same time, a large 1 GW solar power plant project is being developed – said Latinović. He has also reminded that EPS is at the same time working on RES projects on closed ash landfills of the existing thermal power plants, tailings of closed open cast mines in Kolubara and Kostolac, rooftops of its own facilities.
The field of hydrogen is a new direction, and as Latinović explained, it is a young technology which may be used in the energy sector. – We are analysing economic viability of hydrogen in EPS and not only as a replacement for fuel oil but also as an energy source that we could produce in our power plants. For us, energy independence is priceless – concluded Latinović.
