We started repairs in the mining, thermal and hydro sectors on time and are therefore ready to enter the heating season. The system of the “Elektroprivreda Srbije” is working safely and reliably, we have more than two million tons of coal in the thermal power plant stockyards and the remaining repair work will soon be completed - said Dušan Živković, General Manager of “Elektroprivreda Srbije”, at the commemoration of EPS Day in Zvornik.
He pointed out that Company Day is celebrated together with a great jubilee - 70 years since the start of operation of the Zvornik hydropower plant, the oldest HPP on the Drina River.
- HPP “Zvornik” is an example of how revitalization increases the power of a power plant, its reliability, efficiency and extends its service life. With the revitalizations in the hydro sector so far, we have gained 236 new megawatts of power and an annual production of new and green 200 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. The planned revitalizations of hydropower plants in the coming period will increase the power of hydro capacity by almost 80 new megawatts, and the modernization of the thermal sector with environmental protection projects will ensure the reliable operation of this part of EPS in the future – pointed out Živković.
At the commemoration of 132 years since the start of the operation of the first thermal power station on Dorćol, the first man of the EPS said that the time we live in brings changes every day, much faster than we are used to.
- The terms energy transition, decarbonization and digitalization are no longer words that are discussed at professional conferences, they are our reality. EPS also recognizes its responsibility in these processes, which require work, courage, investments, we have the potential and capacity and, above all, a vision. We are aware of intergenerational responsibility because we need to make decisions and implement projects that will leave an energy legacy for the generations ahead of us – concluded Živković.
Milan Aleksić, Advisor to the Minister for Capital Projects at the Ministry of Mining and Energy, congratulated EPS Day to all employees and pointed out that there are few companies that can boast of being the “backbone” of the economy and that their work is recognized in every factory, hospital, school and household.
- Our main task is the future of EPS and how to make the company even stronger, more stable, sustainable and profitable, a pillar of industry and a reliable supplier to citizens. With the support of the relevant ministry and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, significant results have been achieved in stabilizing electricity production, investing in mining production, building new power plants and raising environmental protection standards in our largest thermal power plants - said Aleksić.
