New green power of EPS

In 2025, EPS is more powerful by 76 megawatts

This year, Elektroprivreda Srbije will significantly green up its production power, and the new 76 megawatts from wind and solar are proof of commitment to investments in renewable energy sources, said the Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović today.

- EPS is committed to reaching 45 percent of green energy in Serbia by 2030, which is why numerous development projects are being initiated. An important goal was achieved in April, when the last, 20th wind turbine of the first EPS wind farm was installed. At the same time, the installation of solar panels in the Solar Power Plant Petka was completed. Both power plants will be on the grid this year - the Minister said.

Intensive works are ongoing at the construction site of the Wind Farm Kostolac at all four locations: Drmno, Petka, Ćirikovac and Klenovnik.

- A substation, a switchyard and an internal cable network are under construction - said Dušan Živković, General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije. - What makes these projects different from all other RES is that the solar power plant and wind farm are being built on the site of the exhausted open-cast mines and landfills of the Thermal Power Plant and Open-Cast Mines Kostolac. In this way, we use the potential of these sites in a sustainable and efficient way and create new energy.

The Solar Power Plant Petka is being built on the outdoor landfill Petka and occupies an area of about 15 hectares. The installed capacity is 9.75 megawatts, and the planned annual production is 13.7 gigawatt-hours.

The Wind Farm Kostolac will have a capacity of 66 megawatts, and the planned annual production is 187 million kilowatt-hours, which is sufficient to supply green electricity to about 30,000 households. The project is financed from a loan taken from the German development bank KfW in the amount of EUR 110 million, and EPS has been approved an additional grant in the amount of EUR 30 million from the European Union, i.e. the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
