“Elektroprivreda Srbije” as the bearer of the energy
transition, not only in Serbia, but also beyond, has the capacity and is ready
to impose the “rules of the game” and lay the foundations for the principles of
financing projects in the region”, - said today, Dušan Živković, General
Manager of EPS JSC, at the International Scientific Expert Forum “Western
Balkans in Energy Transition”.
“Financing the energy transition, which is our reality, is a challenge we are
already facing. The sustainability of the transition through the CBAM and ETS
mechanisms that should facilitate the financing of the transition process is
not and will not be simple and I believe that a third financing mechanism will
be sought to enable a sustainable and just transition for the region”, - emphasized
Živković.
At the panel discussion “Energy Transition of Power Industries in the Region”,
he reminded that Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro currently have
around 6,000 MW from fossil fuels and that replacing these capacities must
involve good regional cooperation and coordinated activities.
“It is crucial that we have common positions towards the Energy Community, the
European Commission, since large amounts of CO2 are at stake, tens of billions
of euros of investment, with the imperative of maintaining energy security and
the fact that profitability is expected from power companies and company
management at the same time”, - concluded the first man of EPS.
The panel discussion within the International
Scientific Expert Forum “Western Balkans in Energy Transition” held at the
Serbian Chamber of Commerce was attended by directors and representatives of
the power companies of Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
