The construction of cassette 4 at the ash and slag landfill in the thermal power plant "Nikola Tesla A" in Obrenovac is entering its final stages and the first tests are expected to begin on July 10, said Dušan Živković, General Manager of "Electric Power Industry of Serbia", after visiting cassette 4.

He pointed out that this is one of the key projects for the improvement of further work and environmental protection in TENT A and that it will be the largest cassette for the disposal of ash and slag within EPS, and that it is particularly important that the most modern technologies and environmental standards of the European Union will be applied.

- After the completion of the desulphurization plant in TENT A, the same one in TENT B that is in the end of construction, with cassette 4 in our largest TPP, we continue to invest in environmental protection in order to harmonize our thermal sector with all EU regulations. This is the only way for EPS to be a major energy player in the region and beyond in the future. The constructed cassette 4 will be an example of an ecological way of disposing of by-products in the production of thermal energy – said Živković.

The project is worth 45 million euros and is being carried out by a consortium led by PRO TENT. Cassette 4 will occupy 115 hectares, and 35 hectares of green protective belt are already being formed around it. In addition to the existing method of ash and slag disposal, a dense hydromixture of ash and slag will be prepared for future storage. The strictest environmental regulations were applied to this project and two types of foils were installed accordingly, bentonine and high-density polyethylene, each with an area of 1.3 million square meters. The preliminary design, feasibility study and environmental impact assessment study were done by the Mining Institute in Belgrade, and the design for the building permit and the project for execution was done by the Jaroslav Černi Institute for the Development of Water Resources.

The first man of EPS also visited the prefabricated plot of the Tamnava mines, where two BTO production systems are being installed for PK "Radljevo", and the importance of the implementation of this project, as well as the progress of works, was emphasized.
