Serbia
and Romania are developing important projects that will enhance energy
security, and it is very important that we build bridges of trust, stability
and concrete partnership within the Joint Commission for Đerdap – said Dubravka
Đedović Handanović, Minister of Mining and Energy, at the 103rd
session of the Serbia-Romania Joint Commission for Đerdap.
She
pointed out the importance of restoring the continuity of sessions under the
mandate of the current Ministry, since four sessions have been held in two
years, which had not been the case before. Đedovic Handanovic emphasized that,
according to the reports of the Energy Community, Serbia has been the leader in
the region in the sectors of electricity and renewable energy sources for two
consecutive years, and that the decades-long successful work of the Joint
Commission can provide a strong foundation for expansion of bilateral
cooperation to include major projects in the energy sector.
-
Serbia has increased its installed RES capacities by 85 percent in the last two
years, additional 2.5 gigawatts of new green energy projects from public and
private funds are now being implemented, and more green energy requires better energy
balancing and storage. The potential project of Đerdap 3 PSPP is very important
for energy stability, energy storage and greater RES integration. The work of
this commission can be expanded to include future initiatives and serve as a
platform for discussing new projects and technical solutions. The planned
Serbia-Romania gas pipeline will further diversify supply, enhance integration
with regional and European markets, as well as resilience to energy crises. We
also hope for the visit of the future Minister of Energy of Romania to Serbia
in order to discuss mutually beneficial projects – she said.
The
Ambassador of Romania to Serbia, Silvia Davidoju, pointed out that dialogue and
cooperation in the field of energy are the most fruitful and dynamic sector in
bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
In
addition to the members of the Joint Commission, the meeting was also attended
by Dušan Živković, General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije. After
three days of work, the Joint Commission mutually adopted all the minutes and
reports on nine items of the agenda, and experts in several sections,
representatives of the institutions of both countries aligned their positions
and significant progress was made to support future work.
