The
total amount of gypsum produced during the operation of the existing
desulphurization plant in the Kostolac B thermal power plant is
successfully marketed, and it is about 150,000 tons per year, said Milena
Đakonović, director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Department
in Elektroprivreda Srbije at the second international conference Fly Ash, Bottom
Ash, Gypsum - Raw Materials For A Circular Green Economy, held at the
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
-
To promote sales, we have registered gypsum in accordance with the REACH
regulation of the European Union. In this way, gypsum export to the EU market
is facilitated, making it practically a chemical. In addition, we have initiated
registration of ash within REACH, and we expect that process to be completed in
the next few months - said Đakonović at the conference organized by Balkan
Energy.
She
added that gypsum production will increase after the TENT A3-A6 and TENT B desulfurization
plants have been commissioned, as well as after the commissioning of unit B3 of
the Kostolac B thermal power plant.
-
Ash and gypsum are used in developed countries, domestic cement plants have
been using fly ash for years, however, the quantities involved are small - said
Dejan Popović, president of the Council of the Energy Agency of Serbia, at the
opening of the conference.
He
advocated holding a larger number of expert meetings and preparing a serious
study that would contribute to the increase in the use of these secondary raw
materials.
-
Ash can be used in construction and to produce concrete, but there are also
lesser-known applications, such as the zeolite synthesis, the synthesis of
geopolymers, as well as in the extraction of rare metals, which will be of crucial
importance in the future, because they are used in rechargeable batteries,
computer memories, LED bulbs and solar panels - said Marija Šljivić Ivanović,
scientific advisor, head of the laboratory for radiation protection and
environmental protection at the Institute for Nuclear Sciences in Vinča.
The
conference was also attended by Bojan Đordan, executive director for generation
at Elektroprivreda Crne Gore and Rade Bučevac, director of Moravacem
company. Businesspersons interested in buying fly ash, bottom ash and gypsum
presented their needs for these secondary raw materials.
