On product portfolio diversification of “Elektroprivreda Srbije” at the SEEnergy conference in Novi Sad spoke Dejan Ostojić, Director of the Energy Production Technical Affairs Department of EPS.
- Carefully considering the needs of the power system and adapting the production portfolio to new energy strategies, while preserving energy security, EPS is analysing all possible scenarios acceptable for further development - said Ostojić.
He stated that biogas/biomethane is potentially interesting for EPS, more precisely for TPP-CHP Novi Sad and TPP-CHP Zrenjanin in terms of possible partial substitution of natural gas.
- Currently, together with the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, we are conducting analyses on the availability of biomass for energy use in EPS thermal power plants, for the purposes of burning solid biomass, or the use of biomass for the production of biogas/biomethane - said Ostojić.
He added that the results of that study will be the basis for some future decisions, which must take special account of the quantities of biomass necessary for the continuous and stable operation of our power plants, and the necessity of ensuring a stable raw material base.
