One of the drivers of energy and economic development is Elektroprivreda Srbije and we are aware of our obligations and continuously work on ensuring energy stability and on renewable energy sources projects, the possibilities of diversification of sources, and energy efficiency. We have a lot of work ahead in the coming years, and one of the first goals we should achieve is that 45 percent of production by 2030 is from RES. The basis for achieving this goal are investment projects on which we are actively working – said Radovan Stanić, Assistant General Manager for EPS JSC Operational Affairs, at the conference "The Power of Change: Energy Transition for a Competitive Serbia".

He pointed out that at the end of last year, EPS put into operation Unit B3 in Kostolac with a capacity of 350 MW and that EPS is increasingly focused on RES, and that this year there will be 76 MW of new green energy on the grid from the Solar Power Plant Petka and the Wind Farm Kostolac. Stanić emphasized that EPS completed the desulphurization plant in TENT A more than a year ago, and this year the same one will be built in TENT B. The strategic project of EPS is the Pumped-Storage Hydro Power Plant Bistrica, with a capacity of 650 MW, which will be the main security factor and energy storage that will contribute to the security of the system, and 1 GW solar project is also being developed, which will reduce the burden of taxes in the future.

- EPS is changing both organizationally and business-wise every day, although it seems slow to many, but everything in the energy sector is in the long run. There are no easy races, they are all difficult marathons, but the result should be success, profitability and well-organized EPS – said Stanić.

Aleksandar Latinović, Head of the System Services Division at EPS, at the panel on regional cooperation and diversification of sources, pointed out that such cooperation is assumed especially in the case of EPS, which manages the most flexible portfolio.

- EPS has a positive view of merging markets in the region, but if we do not participate, that market is not so important because of our size - said Latinović.

The area of hydrogen is a new direction in which to look, and as Latinović explained, it is a young technology that can be used in energy.

 - We are doing an analysis of the profitability of hydrogen in EPS, not only as a substitute for fuel oil, but also as an energy source that we could produce in our power plants. Energy independence has no price for us – said Latinović.
