On Vidovdan (St. Vitus Day), a date of profound
historical and spiritual importance for the Serbian people, the Ministry of
Construction, Transport and Infrastructure issued—within the legal
timeframe—the operating permit for System 50 of Unit B3 at the Kostolac B
Thermal Power Plant. This system represents the core of Serbia’s new power
generation facility. On the same day, the President of the Republic of Serbia,
Aleksandar Vučić, conferred the Order of St. Vitus with the Gold Medal for
Merit upon electrical engineer Željko Lazović, project manager for the
construction of the new unit, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to
the national energy sector.
Mr Lazović led the development of the B3 unit at
Kostolac B under extremely demanding conditions, including the COVID-19
pandemic and global economic challenges. Through his expertise, commitment and
leadership, he overcame all obstacles, strengthening both Serbia and EPS after
more than three decades, and ensuring long-term energy security and stability. Working
alongside Chinese partners and over 130 contractors, Mr Lazović and his team
successfully delivered a large-scale, modern, and highly efficient power plant
that complies fully with both domestic and EU environmental standards. A valued
member of EPS for nearly 13 years, his role in advancing the company’s
investment projects has been of great significance.
