Meeting of new and old energy in Kostolac

“Elektroprivreda Serbia” is not only the largest producer of coal and electricity, but also one of the largest investors and active support in all archaeological projects in the area of Kostolac – said Radovan Stanić, Assistant General Manager of EPS for Operational Affairs.

At the conference “Green Agenda and Sustainable Development” in the Archaeological Park “Viminacijum”, he pointed out that EPS is proud of its contribution to the research, conservation and preservation of the site, and it is an honour that the skeletons of the mammoth Vika and ships-galleys, as well as many other exhibits, were found in the area of the “Drmno” mine.

- In all these efforts, employees from Kostolac worked with the experts of the Institute of Archaeology, and this is the place where new and old energy met. The EPS and “Viminacijum” have grown together. We preserve everything that generations before us have built, we improve production, invest in modernization and environmental protection, and we do not forget our heritage. Our new capacities, the first wind farm and the solar power plant “Petka” here nearby confirm that we are only facing the future, green energy and sustainable development. These new 76 green megawatts are just the beginning in the development of RES projects, and EPS will continue to be the guarantor of the security of electricity supply to citizens and the economy – said Stanic.

The cooperation between the Archaeological Park “Viminacium” and EPS has been going on for decades and is an example of good practice in the coexistence and work of the economy and archaeological heritage.

- If there were no EPS, there would be no “Viminacium”. Our example confirms that cultural and energy institutions can coexist and develop. Today, “Viminacijum” is an institution recognized not only within Serbia, but also among the world's cultural heritage - said Ph.D. Miomir Korać, project manager of the “Viminacijum” project and Director of the Centre for New Technologies.

During the conference, Marko Plavšić, one of the project managers of TPP Kostolac B3, presented the cooperation with archaeologists during the construction of this unit in Kostolac, while Jovan Tošić, project manager on the construction of the solar power plant “Petka”, spoke about this new capacity, and Predrag Đorđević, project manager of the wind farm “Kostolac”, pointed out the most important aspects of the construction of the first wind farm of EPS.
