The implementation of the revitalization project for the “Vlasina Hydropower Plants" has officially begun with a kickoff meeting between representatives of “Electric Power Industry of Serbia" and the contractors and the supervision team.

- As the continuation of the modernization of our hydropower capacity is of strategic importance, EPS as the investor expects full compliance with the stipulated deadlines and maximum engagement from all participants. Although the capacity of the “Vlasina HPP“ is 129 MW, this is an extremely complex project because the system includes four power plants with ten generating units that have been in operation for more than seven decades. Once the works are completed, the plant will not only achieve higher power output but also ensure decades of improved reliability – said Dušan Živković, General Director of EPS JSC.

The “Vlasina HPPs“, unique power plants in the EPS portfolio, operate in a cascade system and generate energy four times in succession, representing a significant source of peak energy.

- The Ministry of Mining and Energy will continue, as before, to provide institutional support so that the modernization of the “Vlasina HPPs“, which are a true gem of our power system, is completed in the best possible way. In addition to their importance for the security and reliability of electricity supply, the project also carries broader significance for the local population and the economy of the entire southern region of Serbia  – said Milan Aleksić, Advisor to the Minister of Mining and Energy.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the contractor “Energotehnika Južna Bačka", the suppliers of the main generating equipment “Andritz Hydro" and “Gamesa Electric," as well as the subcontractor “Goša Montaža." The “Institute Mihajlo Pupin“ is responsible for the reconstruction and modernization of the control system, while the Swiss‑Serbian consortium Gruner–NET Invest is in charge of project supervision. The total value of the project is EUR 109,7 million, with financing provided through a EUR 67 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a grant from the EU of EUR 15,43 million disbursed through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), and EUR 27,26 million EPS's own funds.
