The environmental impact study shows that the construction of the Buk Bijela hydropower plant on the Drina River will not have an impact on Montenegro, said today, Dušan Živković, General Manager of ''Elektroprivreda Srbije" at a public discussion on transboundary impact in Plužina.
- The profession and science have provided clear answers that this project is possible to implement while preserving natural values. Our task is to use the potential that nature has given us, while maximally preserving the environment, and to leave a valuable and useful legacy for future generations that will improve the quality of the environment through their work. - said Živković.
In the Environmental Impact Study, which was carried out by a consortium consisting of “ViZ zaštita" from Banja Luka, Belgrade's “Energoprojekt Hidroinženjering", the Water Management Institute from Bijeljina and ECO Energy Consulting from Podgorica, experts provided a detailed overview, analyses and protection measures during construction and operation of HPP ''Buk Bijela".
- During preparation, construction and during operation, HPP ''Buk Bijela" will not have an impact on the Durmitor National Park and the Piva Nature Reserve and this is the result of the assessment of the transboundary impacts of the project on the environment of Montenegro – said Danilo Mrdak, member of the team that prepared the study and professor at the University of Montenegro.
He emphasized that there are no negative impacts on ecosystems, flora, fauna, population health, surface and groundwater, or on the water regime of the Tara River, beyond the existing impact of HPP ''Piva".
Mayor of Plužina municipality, Slobodan Delić He pointed out that it is time to start seeing projects as something that needs to be implemented and not negatively assessed in advance. He reminded that he is the president of a municipality that has an artificial lake and a hydroelectric power plant and that for more than 50 years of operation, the HPP ''Piva" has brought many benefits to the local community.
Miro Vračar, he financial director of the “Elektroprivreda of Montenegro", stated that projects like the HPP “Buk Bijela" should be provided a serious boost, with a serious approach, open issues can simply be overcome.
