Year of Environmental and Major Projects

For more than half a century, Serbia's largest thermal power plant, „Nikola Tesla A" with six units, has been the single biggest producer of electricity in the national power system. The first unit in Obrenovac was commissioned on March 7, 1970, marking the beginning of an intensive phase in the development of Serbia's energy sector. Since then, thanks to the dedication and commitment of its employees, TENT has generated nearly 808 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.

“The commissioning of the first unit was a major success and a significant technological leap, enabling Serbia to embark on ambitious new development plans. Last year at TENT was marked by important environmental projects, the major overhaul of Unit A6, and maintenance of all other plants and facilities, while the planned annual production of 14.6 billion kWh was achieved," said Dušan Živković, General Director of „Elektroprivreda Srbije", at the celebration of 56 years since the start of operations at Nikola Tesla A.

Živković emphasized that after the completed overhauls, the operational life of the units will be extended for another twenty years. He reminded that the desulfurization plant at TENT A is in operation, and a similar facility has been built at TENT B. “I expect that after all investments in reconstruction and modernization, the reliability of TENT's units will reach a significantly higher level," he added.

Goran Lukić, Director of Energy Production at TENT, noted that the thermal capacities in Obrenovac generate about fifty percent of Serbia's electricity each year.

“All units in Obrenovac are still available, some more, some less. This is thanks to the fact that the founders procured the best possible technology, and generations of engineers have exploited and maintained it in the best way. Railway transport at TENT is among the busiest, with trains continuously, 24 hours a day, delivering coal to the power plant," Lukić pointed out.
