Good business results and profit gained in the past three years are an indicator of the route that Elektroprivreda Srbije is heading. It is a way of intensive investments, diversification of the production portfolio and readiness to introduce new technologies. The plan of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is to invest approximately EUR 1.2 billion in new production capacities from renewable energy sources in the next three years, said the General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije, Dušan Živković, at the Kopaonik Business Forum.
- Good financial results and the reduction of the company's indebtedness by a third have created conditions for new investments to be realistic and with no large burden for the company. When we talk about new projects, these are primarily the pumped-storage hydropower plant Bistrica and 1 GW solar plant, but there is also a gas-fired power plant in Niš, which should not only contribute to the strengthening of base energy within the EPS, but will also contribute to the diversification of sources. This is very important in light of global uncertainties. Recently, we have officially started the project of Vlasinske HPPs' reconstruction, and I am proud of the fact that after 43 years since the commencement of its operation, we have successfully completely refurbished our only pumped-storage hydropower plant Bajina Bašta. It is an important link in the energy stability of the system - said Živković at the panel "Energy 4.0: Transforming systems for a sustainable economy".
He reminded that due to the completed projects in Kostolac, the new unit of the thermal power plant, solar power plant and the first wind farm, EPS today has an additional 426 MW on the grid, where 350 are base energy.
- We need to have more courage and determination, as our ancestors had, to build capital production capacities. I will emphasize that countries that use nuclear energy as a base energy are actually the most technologically and industrially developed countries - Živković concluded.
