The assembly of a massive mining machine weighing 1,550 tons and capable of handling 8,500 cubic meters of overburden per hour has been completed. This metal giant is one of four machines currently being assembled at Kolubara errection yards and is the first to head to its operational site.
It will operate within the First ECS system of the youngest Kolubara open pit mine, alongside a bucket wheel excavator and a belt conveyor system, both of which are now in the final stages of assembly. Today, the errection yard has been visited by Ivan Janković, Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy for Geology and Mining, and Dušan Živković, General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije, accompanied by their teams.
- After completing all functional tests at the errection yard, the new mining machine – the spreader – will now proceed to its operational position. The work undertaken at this errection yard represents a major investment project, the largest in the history of EPS mining sector, and includes the assembly of two ECS systems for Field E and two ECS systems for Radljevo mine. It is important that the work continues to progress and that the remaining components are also nearing completion – said Dušan Živković, General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije.
He emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines, as the plan is to commission the systems within the year enabling an additional annual overburden production of 16 to 19 million cubic meters.
- The deadline has been met – the assembly of the spreader has been completed in the first quarter of this year, and today it begins its journey to the open pit mine. Its capacity is about 12 million cubic meters annually. This will significantly contribute to overburden removal while ensuring all necessary conditions for uninterrupted coal excavation at Radljevo mine, as well as stable coal production and electricity generation within thermal power capacities – stated Ivan Janković, Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy for Geology and Mining.
The assembly of the spreader at Tamnava mining complex began in October 2024. This investment, valued at approximately 25 million euros, was carried out by Južna Bačka, FAM and Goša. It represents the first of four major machines within two ECS systems for Radljevo mine, with a total planned investment of 180 million euros.
