The assembly of the steel colossus, a 35-meter-high bucket wheel excavator, has been completed, which will start its journey to the new “Radljevo" mine next week. The “green" excavator weighs 1,655 tons, has a capacity of 3,150 cubic meters of overburden per hour and is part of the large investment of “Elektroprivreda Srbije" in four new mining systems for the new Kolubar mines “Radljevo" and Field “E".

      - The largest mining machinery installations, worth around EUR 450 million, are underway at two assembly sites, which will ensure larger overburden and coal production in the coming years in the Mining Basin “Kolubara". It is crucial that all contractors remain fully committed and meet deadlines so that these complex mining machines are ready to operate according to plan – said Dušan Živković, General Manager of EPS, during a site visit of the assembly site in Kalenić.

At the same location, intensive work is also being done on another bucket wheel excavator, testing of the equipment is underway and, in the fall, it should join the spreader, which is already working on our youngest mine, and together they will increase the overburden removal capacity and accelerate the start of coal production.

The tour was also attended by Ivan Janković, Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy for Geology and Mining, who emphasized that it is especially important to accelerate the dynamics of equipment assembly and testing.

      - The safety of coal production and electricity generation in thermal capacities is one of the priorities and conditions for ensuring the country's energy security, and that is why the works on the installation of equipment for “Radljevo" and Field “E" are currently the most important in the mining sector – said Janković.

General Manager of EPS and Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy for Geology and Mining also visited the works at the assembly site in Vreoci, where mining machines are being assembled for two ECS systems that will operate in Field “E".
