The pedestrian bridge, located at the confluence of
the Rzav and Drina rivers in Višegrad, had been out of service for years, but
it is now being given a new look. The reconstruction of the bridge, financed by
Elektroprivreda Srbije, has begun today and once restored, the bridge
will provide an additional entrance to Andrićgrad.
The renovated bridge will represent an additional
tourist attraction, but also a more beautiful and more functional access to
that part of the city. Bridges have connected people for centuries, and this
one over the Rzav has united the municipality of Višegrad, Elektroprivreda
Republike Srpske and Elektroprivreda Srbije.
- Bridges are symbols of connection and today Elektroprivreda
Srbije once again demonstrates that energy itself is a bridge that unites.
We are proud to enable pedestrians to once again use the bridge over the Rzav
River after nearly three decades. The bridge was originally built in the 1970s
as part of the construction of the reversible hydro power plant Bajina Bašta
and I am pleased that by restoring this bridge we are contributing not only to
cooperation with our colleagues from the Višegrad hydro power plant, but
also to the citizens of Višegrad and all tourists, since this bridge leads
directly to Andrićgrad – said Dušan Trišić, Director of Energy Production at Drinsko-Limske
HPPs Branch.
Trišić highlighted that financial resources in the
amount of nearly 40 million dinars were provided by EPS.
- The deadline for completion of works is
mid-September, and in fall we will be at this place again walking across the
reconstructed bridge – added Trišić.
Namely, this is a project which, supported by the
municipality of Višegrad, was put forward by former President of the Republic
of Srpska Milorad Dodik and the Government of the Republic of Srpska to the
Government of Serbia. The result reflects the strong cooperation between the
municipality of Višegrad and the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The ceremony marking the start of the works was also
attended by Nedeljko Perišić, Director of Drina HPP, as well as
Mladen Đurević, Head of the Municipality of Višegrad.
