Regional projects are not only a necessity, but also a key instrument in achieving common goals in terms of energy security and increasing the share of renewable energy sources, Dušan Živković, Acting General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije, said at the Energy Summit in Trebinje.

At the panel Linking/Networking of Regional Power Companies as a Response to Energy and Climate Changes, he emphasized that the region needs common megawatts, primarily from renewable energy sources, such as the Gornja Drina hydropower system.

- Networking and cooperation of regional power companies are particularly important at a time when we are living through the energy transition and the decarbonization process. The challenges imposed by these processes are and will continue to grow, and I am convinced that through regional energy projects we can provide the best answer. The only question is whether we will be worthy of the moment and go one step further. In the past, great visionaries had enough synergy to build Đerdap 1, with the capacity of 2,500 MW. Will we find enough synergy for the Gornja Drina project, with the capacity of 211 MW? The year 2026 is not far away, it is the day after tomorrow and we will have significant pressure from the CBAM fee - Živković said.
