Based on the data provided by the Elektrodistribucija Srbije, around 51,000 citizens will be exempt from paying the January electricity bill. These are the citizens who were without electricity for more than 24 hours and majority of them live in Loznica, Čačak, Majdanpek and Bor," said Dušan Živkovic, General Manager of EPS JSC, in RTS Morning News, adding that EPS will take over part of the obligations related to the costs of compensation to these citizens.

Regarding electricity imports, Živković emphasized that EPS is currently covering all the needs with its own production capacities; production matches consumption, and there are no electricity imports.

“We had stable production throughout January, and it continues in February as well. Consumption in January was around 130 million kWh per day, and it is now stabilized at 110 to 115 million kWh. Good hydrological conditions, which appeared after a year and a half of drought, have additionally stabilized the situation. After stable production in January, we have entered a period of continuous stable electricity production,” Živković said.

He also pointed out that EPS imported less coal in 2025 than in 2024, and half as much as in 2023., and that imports in the coming period will depend on the quality and calorific value of Kolubara coal.

“What is important is that we are stabilizing coal production. Four systems in Kolubara, which have not been developed for a long time, will be put into operation this year, and this will significantly improve long-term production and ensure security. Coal reserves at the thermal power plant stockpiles are at the planned level—around 1.3 million tons,” the EPS General Manager stated.

Speaking about the operations of the largest energy company in 2025., Živković said that EPS has set a clear path forward.

“We achieved a profit of RSD 42 billion and have operated profitably for the third year in a row. We reduced the company’s debt by one-third, which is very important. We have entered a zone of low indebtedness compared to other energy companies, which opens space for further development and new investments. We have completed the wind farm and solar power plant projects, adding 76 MW of new green capacity. We are also finalizing the revitalization of the Bajina Bašta pumped-storage hydropower plant. I believe we are moving in the right direction and that in the upcoming period we will create conditions for launching new projects, as new production capacities are essential for us,” Živković emphasized.

Regarding the development of new projects, he explained that priority projects include the 1 GW solar program, the Bistrica pumped-storage hydropower plant (PSHP), and, in the long run, Đerdap 3, while also noting that EPS is interested in purchasing fully developed projects on the market, such as the Plandište Wind Park (WP), Pančevo CHP, and other projects.
