Elektroprivreda Srbije has announced a public call for the purchase and development of projects in the field of renewable energy in order to get a realistic view of the market, since big numbers are often thrown around in public when it comes to capacities and goals for 2030. „That's why we want to see the actual level of development of these projects and what the real potential is,“ said Dušan Živković, General Manager of EPS, at the conference
"Energy as a Pillar of Growth – System Stability and Economic Competitiveness.“
He added that this call mainly covers projects from solar and wind, necessarily with the presence of battery storage, but the intention is also to look at the potential of projects related to biomass and other types of green energy. The goal is to assess what EPS could buy and, in a shorter period, improve the energy mix in the RES segment, aside from the projects it develops on its own.
- We want to ensure the development of RES projects, and on the other hand, EPS has its own sites that need to get a new life. These are sites of old power plants that will either be kept as reserves or closed, and where we could build biomass plants or other clean energy sources. The ultimate goal is to find the right place for EPS and our partners, to ensure the stability of our portfolio and make a strong contribution to a cleaner Serbia - Živković explained.
The head of EPS pointed out that the drought on the Danube, the biggest in history, showed how important capacities like the pumped storage hydro power plant Bajina Bašta are.
- The fully revitalized PSHPP Bajina Bašta showed its full shine and huge importance for the power sector this summer. The construction of PSHPP Bistrica is a project of the same purpose and an absolute priority. We started the preparatory work in February and have already submitted 245 requests to various institutions. We hope that, despite the complex bureaucratic procedures, we will reach the signing of the contract with our Japanese partners in the second quarter of next year – stated Živković.
