Investing in rehabilitation of the existing capacities and construction of new capacities that use renewable energy sources is the backbone of strategic development of Elektroprivreda Srbije maximally supported by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Mining and Energy - said Dušan Živković, Acting General Manager of the Joint Stock Company Elektroprivreda Srbije Belgrade, at the occasion of opening of Energy 2023 Conference.
Živković emphasized that EPS was preparing new projects related to the use of wind and solar capacities and was developing RES projects that had been started, and that intensive works were being performed on the project for construction of 680 MW pump-storage hydro power plant of Bistrica.
- The pump-storage Bistrica HPP will enable balancing and stability of the system, not only in Serbia but also in the region, and that is a key prerequisite for a larger share of “green” energy in our country - said Živković. - Thermal energy is our base energy and I am sure that its contribution will be equally significant in security and stability of the system, but also in safety and security of electricity supply to our customers. Therefore, one of priorities in the period to come will be the modernization of our mining and thermal capacities with special commitment to the improvement of environmental protection, since that is the imperative of business activities in the forthcoming years.
The CEO of EPS pointed out that the company was changing after several decades’ standstill and that the reforms were aiming at EPS successful and profitable operation. He also pointed out that those who did not change and adapt to the times in which they create and live could not count on success. Živković emphasized the importance of cooperation with the public with expertise in energy, particularly in modern time which imposes special challenges such as decarbonization and green transition.
