The period of green transition and increase in electricity consumption, in addition to the change of the production portfolio and the fulfillment of the obligation towards Europe for share of renewable energy sources of 45 percent in electricity generation, imposed the need to use all energy sources. With RES projects, such as the Solar Power Plant Petka, the Wind Farm Kostolac, the Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant Bistrica and 1 GW Solar Project, Elektroprivreda Srbije will green up its portfolio, and the contribution to the achievement of the set goals is also given by prosumers. In three years, EPS has signed about 5,000 contracts with prosumers, with a total capacity of 94 MW - said Radovan Stanić, Assistant General Manager for EPS Operational Affairs, at the conference "Prosumer - A Significant Participant in the Electric Power System of Serbia".
Ivana Đorđević, Director of the Department for Prosumer Management at EPS, pointed out that the prosumers have so far supplied a total of 57 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
- The largest number of prosumers are households, about two-thirds of the total. Entrepreneurs, industry, large companies, catering facilities are also part of the prosumer community - said Ivana Đorđević.
She reminded that the challenges related to non-alignment of regulations have been resolved, but further education of customers is necessary, because if they do not understand the concept of the prosumer well, they cannot know its effects.
– The challenge of pre-investment still exists. The effect is visible at the end of the settlement period. At the end of March 2025, about 74 percent of customers had no surpluses or they were insignificant, while about 20 percent of customers realized surpluses between 1,000 and 5,000 kWh, which they handed over to the grid free of charge – said Đorđević.
Maja Vukadinovic, Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy, pointed out that it has been three years since the first prosumers became part of our electricity system, and the idea is for citizens, communities and companies to be not only consumers, but also producers of electricity, she said.
- The monasteries are also among prosumers, and the most famous is Žiča. The idea is also for the building of the Government of Serbia to get its own solar power plant - said Vukadinović.
