The recently started
rehabilitation of the pump storage hydro power plant Bajina Bašta will bring additional security to our power
system, greater reliability and extension of the working life of the gold
reserve in Elektroprivreda
Srbije
system - said Dušan Živković, Acting General Director of EPS JSC, who visited the rehabilitation works of PSHPP Bajina Bašta together with the Executive Directors.
The project of
rehabilitation and adaptation of the power unit includes the rehabilitation of mechanical and electrical equipment, the power
unit control system, as well as the excitation and electric braking systems.
Work on the first unit began on April 1 and is expected to be completed by the
end of the year, while the same work on the second unit will be completed in
2025. The total value of the rehabilitation project is around EUR
35 million.
- Pump storage hydro power plants are at
the very top of priorities when it comes to renewable energy sources, both for
production and storage of electricity. The only pump storage hydro power plant in EPS is Bajina Bašta, an important reserve in the electric power system of Serbia during
periods of increased electricity consumption or during dry periods. In the
previous 42 years of operation, PSHPP Bajina Bašta confirmed the
justification of its construction, because with the power reserve deposited in
the reservoir in Zaovine, it contributed to the safe supply of electricity -
emphasized Živković.
-
The beginning of the rehabilitation was preceded by the necessary security
measures so that the unit would be in an idle mode and in conditions for safe
operation. The rotor weighing 450 tons was removed on April 11, lowered to the
assembly area of the PSHPP Bajina Bašta powerhouse, and the dismantling
works will be completed in the following days - said Dušan Trišić, director of
energy production at Drinsko-Limske HPPs.
After
more than four decades, Serbia will get another pump storage hydro power plant Bistrica.
The preparation of technical documentation will be completed by the end of the
year, and the preparatory works will begin next year.
-
Pump storage hydro power plant plant Bistrica is one of the strategic
projects of EPS, and it is particularly important because an increasing
participation of variable renewable energy sources is expected. EPS recognizes pump
storage hydro power plants as the most suitable, and the project of the pump
storage hydro power plant Bistrica as an excellent option, taking into
account the level of documentation development, as well as the characteristics
of the project itself. The importance of PSHPP Bistrica is reflected in
the capacity for energy storage, which enables balancing of the system by generating
electricity when it is most needed - emphasized Živković.
