By the end of 2026, 80 percent of our hydropower plants will be refurbished, which implies additional years of security for our electric power system, and in the next few years, through strategic partnership, EPS will have 1 GW of self-balanced solar power plants in its portfolio, with 200 MW battery system for electricity storage. With all projects that we have, we see 2030 as the year of EPS decarbonization to a significant extent, increase of its share in RES and reaching the set goals – said Dušan Živković, General Manager of Elektroprivreda Srbije, today at the RES Serbia 2024 Conference in Vrdnik. On the panel Challenges of RES Integration into the Power System – Serbia and the Region, he pointed out that, in addition to the construction of the first wind farm Kostolac and the solar power plant Petka, locations for new RES projects were being analyzed, primarily on the land of EPS and also where expropriation is not required, mostly the ash disposals of our TPPs. He also pointed out that the PSHPP Bistrica Construction Project was proceeding according to plan, and the environmental impact study would be completed soon. - The time ahead will be intensive in terms of energy, with complex energy and geopolitical challenges, with net zero carbon requirements. Energy companies have to adapt to all this, taking into account energy security, but also energy sovereignty of each country – emphasized Živković.
