The
construction of the "Kostolac" wind farm has been completed and the
first wind farm of "Elektroprivrede Srbije" has produced its first
megawatt-hours. After receiving the decision on connection to the transmission
system, the voltage in the substation and four circuits was released, and then
the propellers of wind generator 1 were turned. This started the trial
operation of the new production capacity.
-
This is a historic moment for EPS and in addition to energy from water, coal
and the Sun, we now have the first energy from our wind farm in Kostolac on the
grid. That is 66 megawatts of new power and a big step towards increasing the
share of renewable energy and towards sustainable energy development not only
of EPS, but of the entire Serbian energy industry - said Dušan Živković,
General Manager, EPS.
He
pointed out that the wind farm in Kostolac is only the beginning of the further
intensive development of new green capacities within the EPS, and that it is
very significant that it was built on the site of an old mining area and that
the area was given a completely new, sustainable purpose.
-
The construction of the wind farm was both a great challenge, but also a real
opportunity for experienced engineers and young, new forces in EPS to acquire
new knowledge and experience for future projects - stressed Živković.
The
energization of the other wind generators of the "Kostolac" WF at the
locations of Drmno, Petka, Ćirikovac and Klenovnik is underway. The planned
annual production is 187 million kilowatt-hours per year, sufficient to supply
around 30,000 households with green electricity.
The
project is financed by a loan from the German development bank KfW in the
amount of EUR 110 million; grant from the European Union, i.e., the Western
Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) in the amount of EUR 30 million, while part
of the funds was provided by EPS.
